On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Kharkiv Municipal Gallery, we are inviting you to the opening of the exhibition “25”, which will be held on September 28, 2021 at 18:00 at 15, Chernyshevskaya Street.

Kharkiv was one of the first in Ukraine (in December 1996) to start the process of popularization and institutionalization of contemporary art when the Kharkiv Municipal Gallery was created. Being an innovator and leader in the cultural sphere, the gallery has become an integral part of the art process in Ukraine.

The exhibition is the result of a study on the history of the development of this institution within the curatorial project of Nastya Khlestova and Anton Tkachenko.

The exhibition project will reflect the history of the Municipal Gallery creation and functioning, showing the main events and exhibitions created over 25 years of work.

An enormous amount of archival materials – from posters to articles about each exhibitions, histories of different generations of gallery employees, eyewitness accounts, artworks from the collection and artifacts from the gallery’s archive, which will show both the history of this cultural platform’s birth and the process of its changes and innovations that the gallery introduced in the artistic life of Kharkiv and Ukraine.

The exposition will include an installation where the viewer can get acquainted with all important events in the life of the gallery and the city of Kharkiv in chronological order (the first festival for young artists NonStopMedia, the Cultural Heroes project, the Second National Biennale of Young Art).

“25” will show the audience how the gallery influenced the contemporary art scene in the city and in Ukraine and what foundation it laid for the artistic movement of Kharkiv as we currently know.
