PROJECT “FIGURA” ANDREY GLADKIY, VITALY FEDOROV

11.08.2020 @ 11:00 am - 29.08.2020 @ 7:00 pm

Andrey Gladkiy is a painter from Kharkiv, known in Ukraine and abroad. Andrey is an old friend of the gallery, an active participant of many social and group projects.

Usually the author refuses to display visual reality or physical objects. His artworks are based on formal elements: line, color, abstraction.

Exhibition “Figura” or “Presence Effect” is a kind of play of paint and rhythms which forms a complete plot. The author focuses on the form, that is the way of creating and observing objects and the environment where figure takes place. The painter highlights elements of the composition such as color, line, curves and texture. So the author hints to the viewer at the very female figure that appears on the canvases.

“I focus the attention of viewers not on the art, but on the representation of art. My figure is made of stains and lines, it is compositional and difficult to trace, that is why it is unique”, the artist notes.

The second name of the exhibition is “Participation effect” – a kind of effect which appears when lines and stains start to interact. As a result, there appears an effect of the presence of a figure in abstract paintings.

Moreover, there is one more “participation effect” in the project by Andrey Gladkiy: the exhibition has, besides his works, abstractions of another artist – Vladimir Fedorov, whose art has inspired Andrey towards his own investigations and experiments. Introducing his work into the exhibition space was Andrei Gladky’s idea, in order to enhance expressiveness of abstract painting and emphasize the ideological and imaginative overlap in the styles of both authors.
