VADIM PETROV “FACADES AND BACK ALLEYS OF THE MEGAPOLIS”

12.11.2021 @ 11:00 am - 27.11.2021 @ 7:00 pm

Does the course of history influence the life of a creative person in the city, has something changed over the past hundred years compared to Valeryan Pidmohylny’s novel “The City ” or the works of Mykola Khvylovyi?

Or maybe the essence and challenges of urban life still revolve around the same problems and through cracks in time you can see chronic diseases? Hidden and invisible driving forces of urban life. How are they different from European or medieval problems?

Creative individuals born of the city, what relation do they have to its resources? The previous post-war generations of artists for obvious reasons avoided reflecting on the sharp contradictions of the urban environment, being content only with the external signs of the city. Only recently have there emerged some artists who decided to address its complex, ambiguous, existential and metaphysical issues. And what about those theories of violence that are now popular among the newest art institutions and the artistic circles? They are disseminated by invited adherents from neighboring countries, calling for criminal investigations of artists practicing contemporary and modern art. Perhaps because they realize that there have always been enough people in the city who wanted to put these theories into practice.

In a word, the dilemma remains: A PERSON in THE CITY.
